5 situations in which dowry is not returned
According to the relevant laws and regulations of marriage, there are five main situations in which the bride price is not returned:

(3) Children born during cohabitation without marriage registration.

Legal provisions related to dowry
(1) Interpretation of the Supreme People's Court on several issues concerning the application of the Marriage Law of the People's Republic of China (2) Article 10: Where a party requests the return of the bride price paid in accordance with custom, the People's Court shall support it if the following circumstances are identified:
(1) Both parties fail to go through the formalities for marriage registration;
(2) Both parties have gone through the marriage registration procedures but do not live together;
(3) Payment made before marriage and causing hardship to the payer.
The application of the provisions of items (2) and (3) of the preceding paragraph shall be conditional on the divorce of both parties.
Where it is difficult to determine whether the nature of the property obtained is a claim or a gift, it may be treated as a gift.
