The marriage certificate can not be handled everywhere, but only in the place where the registered residence of the married party is located. According to the Marriage Registration Regulations, Chinese citizens who apply for marriage within the territory of China must personally go to the marriage registration authority in the place where one party's household registration is located to apply for marriage registration.
Materials required for obtaining a marriage certificate
1. Mainland residents who apply for marriage registration shall provide the following documents and proof materials:
(1) My household registration book and ID card;
(2) I hereby declare that I have no spouse and no direct blood relationship or collateral blood relationship within three generations with the other party.
2. Hong Kong residents, Macau residents, and Taiwan residents who apply for marriage registration shall provide the following documents and proof materials:
(1) My valid pass and ID card;
(2) A statement notarized by a notary public in the place of residence stating that the individual has no spouse and no direct blood relationship or collateral blood relationship within three generations with the other party.
3. Overseas Chinese who apply for marriage registration shall provide the following documents and proof materials:
(1) My valid passport;
(2) A certificate issued by a notary public or authorized agency in the country of residence, authenticated by the embassy or consulate of the People's Republic of China in that country, stating that the individual has no spouse and no direct blood relationship or collateral blood relationship within three generations with the other party, or a certificate issued by the embassy or consulate of the People's Republic of China in that country stating that the individual has no spouse and no direct blood relationship or collateral blood relationship within three generations with the other party.
4. Foreigners who apply for marriage registration shall present the following certificates and supporting materials:
(1) My valid passport or other valid international travel documents;
(2) A certificate issued by a notary public or authorized agency in the country of residence, authenticated by the Chinese embassy or consulate in that country, or authenticated by the Chinese embassy or consulate in China, stating that the individual has no spouse, or a certificate issued by the Chinese embassy or consulate in China stating that the individual has no spouse.
