sure. Since October 1, 2003, China has abolished the mandatory premarital medical examination. The principle of voluntary premarital medical examination is adopted for marriage parties. Men and women who apply for marriage certificates can directly register and obtain them at the marriage registration office without the need for premarital medical examination. But through premarital check ups, diseases that affect marital happiness such as family genetic diseases, genetic defects, and genital abnormalities can be discovered. Based on a responsible attitude towards the family and future generations, it is recommended to undergo premarital physical examinations.
1、 Conditions for obtaining a marriage certificate
As long as the marriage conditions stipulated by law are met, both parties to the marriage can apply for a marriage certificate at the marriage registration authority in the place where one party's permanent household registration is located, without the need to provide a marriage examination certificate, as long as they hold a household registration book, ID card, proof of marital status, and signed proof that they have no spouse or direct or collateral blood relationship with the other party.
The marriage conditions stipulated in China's Marriage Law are:
1. Marriage requires both men and women to be completely voluntary.
2. The age of marriage for men shall not be earlier than 22 years old, and for women shall not be earlier than 20 years old.
3. Comply with the basic principle of monogamy.
4. Not direct blood relatives or collateral blood relatives within three generations.
5. I do not suffer from any diseases that are medically considered unsuitable for marriage.
2、 The benefits of premarital check ups
1. Through investigation of family history and physical examination, genetic problems can be discovered, and doctors will provide necessary guidance on fertility to avoid the occurrence of children with genetic diseases or deformities, which is beneficial for eugenics.
2. Doctors will choose the best time for conception and contraceptive methods for both parties based on their health status, physiological conditions, and birth plans, effectively protecting the health of women and children.
3. Through a comprehensive and systematic physical examination before marriage, one can have a scientific understanding of their physical condition and also discover whether they have any diseases that are not suitable for immediate marriage.
